We have been waiting for it for a long time, no doubt secretly hoping that Guillermo Del Toro will be associated with the project somewhere and, above all, that Gore Verbinski will return, he who had already launched an adaptation in 2008 of the first episode in the meanders of Rapture, before ‘Universal Studios is killing the project, because of its huge budget (200 million) and the risk of an R-Rated classification. Two Interactive have teamed up with Netflix to finally develop a film adaptation of the BioShock video games. On August 26, thanks to Deadline, we finally learned who would be behind the camera of this exciting and puzzling project: the company goes to Francis Lawrence, the man who directed the last three Hunger Games (but also Constantine, I Am Legend or lately Red Sparrow). All to work on the screenplay by Michael Green (who wrote the script for Logan, Alien: Covenant or Blade Runner 2049, among others). Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, said he was “delighted” with this news association with Netflix, described as “one of the best and most forward-thinking storytellers in all of current entertainment”. As for the future fourth video game opus, Zelnick assured that the Cloud Chamber studios were fully mobilized on it. He is thus convinced that “BioShock will continue to captivate the public like never before”. The project was passed around from hand to hand before being definitively abandoned. Let’s hope this time it’s the right one, and that we won’t be disappointed with the result. Article written on February 16, 2022, updated on August 26, 2022. What do you expect from a BioShock film?
