In 2022 and after eight years of absence from our screens, David Cronenberg made his big comeback with Les Crimes du futur, presented in preview at the Cannes Film Festival. In the shadow of his father, his son Brandon Cronenberg is also preparing his return with a horror film which will be unveiled at the Sundance film festival next month, Infinity Pool. Behind this enigmatic title hides a very gloomy and filthy body horror, which follows the descent into hell of a couple of vacationers caught in a spiral of violence and hedonism. This is clearly the most ambitious and crazy film by the Canadian director, already known for his independent feature films like Possessor and Antiviral. At the head of Infinity Pool, we find Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies, The Northman), Mia Goth (X, Pearl), new scream queen in power, but also our Frenchy Jalil Lespert (Yves Saint Laurent). The film tells the story of James and Em (Cleopatra Coleman), a couple on vacation. He is a novelist in search of inspiration, she a wealthy businesswoman who supports him on a daily basis. Everything is going well in their heavenly hotel until James knocks down a man on the road by accident, who dies instantly. Sentenced to death, he then decides to create a double of himself to have it executed in his place, in return for a colossal sum to a mysterious cloning company. If it does not yet have a release date in France, it will arrive from January 27, 2023 in American dark rooms. As a reminder, David Cronenberg will also release a new film next year, called The Shrouds and starring Léa Seydoux, Vincent Cassel and Viggo Mortensen.
