A man accused of kidnapping a child on the street Bronx said ‘someone told him to do it: ‘She was evil!’

An innocent homeless man accused of abducting a 3-year-old girl on the Bronx Road in a horrible scene trying to rob her has told police he did it because she was “bad,” prosecutors said on Wednesday.

“Someone told me to catch the girl,” Santiago Salcedo told investigators when he was shown a photo of himself allegedly holding a young Lilianna Repka outside the BP petrol station at the corner of E Tremont and Baisley Aves. in Schuylerville Monday afternoon. He immediately abandoned the child and fled when a few good Samaritans came to meet him.

Santiago Salcedo was taken to the 45th Precinct station in the Bronx on Monday evening.

“She was ugly!” Salcedo, 27, told investigators. “When the boy stopped me, I left him and left.”

Salcedo faces charges of attempted kidnapping, unlawful arrest, and endangering the child’s well-being and has been ordered to be released on $ 15,000 bail while proceeding with his release from Bronx Criminal Court on Tuesday night. The judge also upheld Liliana’s protection order.

Liliana was walking with her grandmother Gabriela Derevjanik and her two younger brothers when Salcedo crossed the road and went down to her.

“(Salcedo) grabbed a small child by holding it in his arms and blocked it by holding it in his body,” a criminal complaint was lodged with Salcedo.

He wrapped the girl in a comforter and pulled her on his shoulders and tried to run away with Liliana who was in a coma but a group of witnesses intervened.

“I have to take her!” cried loudly and testified Juan Carlos Cavallero, 28, who works at nearby Foodtown, before letting the girl run away.
