Noah Baumbach persists and signs for the third time with the platform. After The Meyerowitz Stories in 2017 and the beautiful Marriage Story in 2019, the New York director directed White Noise for Netflix. It was presented at the opening of the Venice Film Festival, where it was in official competition. Ten years after Frances Ha, it brings together Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig as parents of an average American family of the 1980s, forced to flee their home then that a disturbing cloud occurs due to an “airborne toxic event”. The result: a kind of apocalyptic satire a la Don’t Look Up, in “accidentally Wes Anderson” mode. Adapted from the novel Background noise by Don DeLillo, who co-wrote the screenplay and visibly inspired by the recent pandemic, White Noise announced in its trailer as a dark and absurd comedy, the antithesis of Marriage Story. He offered his first role in front of the camera since 2016 (in Jackie by Pablo Larraín) to Greta Gerwig, his companion in the city and with whom he co-wrote numerous screenplays, including the highly anticipated Barbie, which she directed. He also finds Adam Driver, his actor who became a favorite after While We’re Young, Frances Ha and Marriage Story.
