In May 2011, the first novel in the Fifty Shades of Gray erotic saga, written by EL James, was released and quickly became a worldwide success. The success does not stop there, since in February 2015 the film of the cinematographic adaptation of the best-seller was released, closely followed by two opuses and which will make this work a trilogy now known to all.Concerning the shooting of these films, the actress testifies to a constant arduousness. The reason does not lie in the role she plays but rather in the relationship she maintained with the author of the novels throughout filming. She denounces in particular perpetual disagreements and misunderstandings with the novelist accusing her of imposing her own take on a creative process that didn’t always feel right to the actress. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she said, “I had signed on for a very different version of the movie that we ended up doing. E.L. James had a creative role on the project, all day, every day, she just demanded that certain things be done… She wanted to see certain parts of the book on screen that just didn’t work in a movie, like interior monologues that sounded incredibly cheesy… It didn’t work to say things out loud. It was therefore a permanent battle.” Aged only 23 at the time, the actress therefore evokes the “daily battle” that was the shooting. According to her, there was an artistic misunderstanding on the set and the actors and the director were regularly led to circumvent the novelist’s directives by going so far as to propose their own interpretations of the story, an operation that will have deeply marked the actress. artistic worries, the actress retains sympathy towards the one who trusted her by offering her the first role of her career and declares on this subject: “EL James has always been sympathetic towards me, I am grateful to her to accept me to play the main role. It was a real chance for our respective careers, but the shooting was so special, so special.”
