The four-time Oscar-winning South Korean director for Parasite has recruited the future interpreter of Batman for his new project. According to Deadline, Bong Joon-ho is in talks to write and direct the loosely based adaptation of Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel Mickey7. Ashton describes the story of Mickey7, a “sacrificable human “, sent on a mission to colonize the ice planet Niflheim. When one of its iterations dies, its memories are implanted into a new body. After dying six times, Mickey7 will do everything not to let his Mickey8 clone replace him. On the science fiction side, the two men have proven themselves. Bong Joon-ho has notably signed the futuristic Snowpiercer, Transperceneige and Okja, while Robert Pattinson has already been sent on a mission to the confines of our galaxy by Claire Denis in the trying High Life and, more recently, reversed time at Christopher Nolan with Tenet. While Pattinson’s performance as the dark knight is expected to hit our screens on March 2, Bong Joon-ho has other projects on the go. In particular, he planned to make a sequel to Parasite in series for HBO with Adam McKay, and would have already completed the scenarios for his next two feature films, an animated film and a thriller mixing horror and action.
