For this month of Halloween, the editorial staff of Konbini is preparing a horrifying series for you. From creepypastas to little-known horror films, including curses from elsewhere, a daily article will make you shiver until Day of the Dead. Since the beginning of the month, we’ve been talking to you about films that aren’t necessarily scary. That’s Halloween, sometimes more of a vibe than free jump scares and gore. More concept than pure horror. The best example at this level remains, without a shadow of a doubt, The Predators. The first feature by Tony Scott, Ridley’s little brother, was a hit at the time. It is even unbelievable that he was able to bounce back on a second film which would be his greatest success, to understand Top Gun. However, it is perhaps his finest formal work, a crazy unique object, with a cast as exceptional as it is sublime. See also on Konbini Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie, who says it better? Let’s start with the angle approached. It’s a story of love, seduction, mixing eroticism and horror. A love triangle between two vampires and a scientist that will capsize the couple’s heads. We are far from garlic, the rejection of the cross and the dislike of sunlight. On the other hand, there is a new element to take into account, and not the least: Miriam the vampire is 4,000 years old and transforms her lovers, who also remain immortal, as long as her love for them remains intact. This is no longer the case for John, who, after 300 years, begins to mummify himself – especially since Miriam met Sarah, a scientist. For this, Scott is accompanied by the most surprising cast possible, understand that Sarah is played by Susan Sarandon (!), while the vampires are interpreted by the Frenchwoman Catherine Deneuve (!!), and the singer David Bowie (!!!). A cast as beautiful as it is crazy and rare — and which interprets these monsters so beautiful with crazy accuracy. Stylistically, we alternate sequences in a leather/glasses atmosphere club (obvious inspiration for the Wachowskis concerning Matrix), and moments of ultra intimacy -matted — the work on Stephen Goldblatt’s photo is mind-boggling. Of the two, Scott’s work on the clips is felt as a consistent basis for his arrival in the seventh art. More than a great film, the most beautiful couple of vampires in the history of cinema. Just that. Les Prédateurs is available for streaming on FILMO, on VOD and on DVD/Blu-ray.
