After a launch on March 4, 2021 across the Atlantic, the new Paramount + subscription video on demand (SVOD) platform will be available in France on December 1, the American group Paramount announced on Tuesday. The offer will be available at a price of 7.99 euros per month or 79.90 euros per year, the group said in a press release. In February, Paramount (then called ViacomCBS) and Canal+ had entered into a partnership for Canal+ to be the the only player in France to be able to integrate Paramount+ into its commercial offers. The platform will also be available “on the web, on mobile and via a wide selection of connected televisions”, according to Paramount. The content of this new platform will come from “brands and production studios” of Paramount, “in particular Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Showtime”. The group also promises “original and exclusive content”, such as the miniseries The Offer on the creation of the film The Godfather, the Tulsa King series with Sylvester Stallone or a series based on the video game Halo as well as original French programs. On the youth and family side, the catalog will be equipped with successful animation franchises such as SpongeBob SquarePants or Pat’Patrouille and will also offer blockbusters and successful saga, such as Mission impossible, The Godfather, Star Trek, Transformers or Indiana Jones. “France is a key market for the global expansion of Paramount+”, assured Marco Nobili, its international manager, quoted in the press release. “With the launch in France in December, followed by Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and our presence in the United Kingdom and Italy since September, Paramount+ will be available in all major European markets,” said he added. On Monday, the American media group NBCUniversal had announced the launch in France before the end of the year of another SVOD platform called Universal+. These new offers will notably be in competition with Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+ or Netflix.
