While doing the zouave for Apple TV+ in the Christmas comedy Spirited alongside Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds had other plans in mind to celebrate the Nativity. In an interview with Big Issue, the actor revealed that he wrote the script for a Christmas movie Deadpool to play off Christmas TV movies, with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the co-writers of the first two installments of the adventures of the megalomaniac anti-superhero. “I would love to see a dance and sing scene in a Deadpool movie. Four years ago Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and I wrote a Deadpool Christmas movie. But the project was lost when Fox was taken over by Disney and it never happened. But one day, we will manage to make this film. It’s not a musical, strictly speaking, but a real Deadpool Christmas movie.” This is not the first feat of arms for Ryan Reynolds on the subject. He had already celebrated the Christmas spirit in Once Upon a Deadpool, a kind of less trashy version of Christmas than David Leitch’s film, released only in the United States in 2018, shortly after Deadpool 2, and prohibited to less 13 years old (while Deadpool is prohibited for those under 17). But Ryan Reynolds being an expert level troll, it is possible that this project will never see the light of day. In the meantime, it is in Shawn Levy’s blockbuster that Deadpool will return to our screens on November 6, 2024.
