Currently promoting The Bubble, his next very meta comedy that will take Netflix subscribers behind the scenes of the filming of a blockbuster in times of Covid-19, Judd Apatow has revealed that he is currently working on the sequel to 40 years: Instructions (This Is 40 in VO).Netflix unveils the meta teaser of The Bubble, the next WTF comedy from Judd ApatowFor his fourth film as a director, he had opted for a knocked-up spin-off , a manual that focused on the difficulties of a couple approaching the quarantine of Pete (Paul Rudd) and Debbie (Leslie Mann, Apatow’s wife), accompanied by their two daughters (Iris and Maude Apatow , the latter having recently been revealed to the general public thanks to the role of Lexi in Euphoria). ten years later, when their daughters are now young adults , in order to complete a sort of trilogy, a bit like Richard Linklater’s Before (Sunrise, Sunset, Midnight). We are in 2022 and the time therefore seems to have come for This Is 50, revealed the now aged director 54 years old in the columns of The Wrap: “I always wanted to do This Is 50 and the time has come. I couldn’t have done it five years ago and I won’t be able to do it in five years. I have ideas and I hope that I will be able to concretize the project. I think This Is 40 has aged well. As soon as someone sees him past 40, he says to me: ‘Oh, I understand everything now.’ I want to do it again.” We do not yet know if This Is 50 will be the next feature film by the director, producer and screenwriter who has just signed a multi-year contract with Universal. For the studios, he notably produced Bros, created by gay actor and comedian Billy Eichner, is the first major film to bring together an entirely LGBTQ+ main cast. the Peacock platform, which will follow the daily life of a young man with muscular dystrophy in his family and romantic relationships, struggling against a failing American health system. At 50, Apatow has therefore not decided to ease up .
