The sequel to successful films is also exploited here with the return at the beginning of May of Omar Sy, under contract for several years with the platform, in Far from the ring road, the sequel to The Other Side of the Ring Road (2012), with Laurent Lafitte. Also to come, Lost Ball 2, after a first part which had accumulated more than 37 million views worldwide after its first month of operation in 2020, establishing the popularity of French-style muscular feature films such as Bronx or more recently Without respite, with Franck Gastambide. For the rest, Netflix relies on authors such as director Romain Gavras (The World is yours), with Athena, co-written with Ladj Ly (Les Miserables), or Elias Belkeddar (My days of glory), headlined by Dali Benssalah. Note that we will also have the right to a film The King of Shadows, a contemporary adaptation of an African legend imagined by rapper Kaaris. The streaming giant will also produce the first film by actress Rachel Suissa (Mesrine, The Truth If I Lie 3), Dangerous Liaisons, a contemporary adaptation of the novel by Choderlos de Laclos for a young adult audience. in France on Funny, created by screenwriter Fanny Herrero (Dix pour cent) who dives into the world of stand-up, but also on the documentary Johnny by Johnny on the French rock icon, the Notre-Dame series : La Part du feu on the fire of the famous Parisian cathedral, carried in particular by Roschdy Zem, Caroline Proust and Simon Abkarian, or even In place, a series co-created by Jean-Pascal Zadi (Quite simply noir). It will also put French rap in the spotlight with Nouvelle école, a docu-reality series in which Niska, Shay and SCH are looking for the next nugget of hip-hop in telecrochet mode. Perhaps not enough to compete with the huge machines planned on the Hollywood side on Netflix, like The Gray Man by the Russo brothers (the last two Avengers), with Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas and Chris Evans, or At Knives Out 2 still with Daniel Craig – not to mention the animated Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro. In short, 2022 will be another great year for Netflix.
