Manhattan: Police confront suspects in the latest $4M jewelry theft scandal

A gunshot was fired in Manhattan on Monday morning when police confronted three men believed to be linked to a recent robbery outside high-end restaurants that found more than $ 4 million in jewelry, police said.

It was not immediately clear whether the officers or the gunman opened fire.

Three bullet holes were visible in the front window of the BMW in which the three suspects were riding. Two of them fled, police said, but a 19-year-old man was arrested and a firearm was found.

The drama was played over several blocks starting at about 1:20 a.m. when police tried to stop a BMW, with a plate with Mercedes-Benz, in W.C. 28th St. near Sixth Ave.

Gunshots were fired shortly after, and the driver of the BMW crossed the road and sped off.

The suspects got out of the car on Fifth Ave. and W. 28th St. they fled, the girl was arrested by police near Madison Park.

Police said the suspects may have been linked to robberies on August 2.

On August 14, two men, aged 47 and 27, were robbed while leaving TAO Downtown. Police said the robbers fled with Richard Mille’s watch and other jewelry worth about $ 4 million for an elderly man and a $ 10,000 medallion necklace for a minor.

In both robberies, two suspects were arrested.

It is unclear whether the same suspects were ever involved in the September 15 robbery at the famous Philippe hangout, a Chinese restaurant.
