More than 20 years after its theatrical release, the Chicken Run phenomenon will be entitled to a sequel. This goofy clay-volleyball road movie was a huge box office smash with $225 million, and remains the most successful stop-motion movie of all time. chose to surf on the success of this first opus to offer a sequel to the adventures of their laying hens and were slow to give in to the temptation of prequels, sequels and other adaptations, very fashionable in the animation world. But the hen with the golden eggs has attracted the covetousness of the giant Netflix, which has recovered the rights to the film, still produced by the historic Aardman studios. And today, the platform gives us news of the project, entitled Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, which should be released in 2023. In this new film, the band of birds will return to the henhouse where we will find Ginger and Rocky who have given birth to a fearless little chick named Molly. While she is eager to discover the outside world, her parents will have to calm her enthusiasm while a new threat comes to disturb the tranquility of the chicken coop. The little family will have to gather all their strength to penetrate an impregnable fortress. After almost ending up in a pie, our heroic hens could end up in nuggets. Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson, who doubled Ginger and Rocky, will not resume their role and have passed the torch to Thandiwe Newton (Westworld) and Zachary Levi (Shazam). This second installment will be directed by Sam Fell (The Strange Power of Norman). A double dose of good news from Aardman: a new Wallace and Gromit film is also in preparation and will also be released by Netflix in 2024.
