There’s a kind of winning combo surrounding Steven Spielberg’s next project, which provides an excitement that’s particularly rare among seasoned moviegoers but also among those less so. And its first trailer proves it in every way. It is an autobiographical project about the filmmaker’s youth, as so many great directors have done in recent years (we are thinking here of Roma by Alfonso Cuarón, Licorice Pizza by Paul Thomas Anderson, or in Belfast by Kenneth Branagh). And seeing the birth of cinephilia in the greatest storyteller of the 20th century is not nothing. We are also invited to explore the artist’s themes – notably through the prism of his parents’ divorce and the problems with his father. When you know Spielberg’s filmography and think back to ET or Close Encounters of the Third Kind (to name but a few), it makes sense. Add to that a dream cast, combining Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, or even Seth Rogen, and a soundtrack by John Williams, and you will understand why The Fabelmans is already the most exciting project of 2023. The proof in pictures: The Fabelmans will be released in theaters on January 25, 2023.
