Musical biopics are still on the rise in Hollywood and the industry has this time decided to tackle Whitney Houston. Entitled I Wanna Dance With Somebody, from the name of its famous title, the film will be written by the now famous Anthony McCarten, known for being behind the disputed Bohemian Rhapsody, but also The Dark Hours, A Wonderful History of Time and more recently The Two Popes.Naomi Ackie, known for her role in The End of the F***ing World (for which she won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2020) who will play the one who started in a church choir in New Jersey before becoming one of the greatest record sellers of all time. Sony unveils a preview of her performance in a first trailer, between iconic hits, filming of clips and performance at the Super Bowl. The heirs of Whitney Houston, who died accidentally in 2012 at the age of 48, drowned in her bathtub after having ingested a large quantity of cocaine, have given their consent and are collaborating in the project. Despite the end of her career marked by drug addiction, she remains one of the great voices of R’n’B and popular music in general of the past thirty years. I Wanna Dance With Somebody is expected in the French theaters on December 21.
