She is at the heart of one of the impossible to forget movie scenes. In The Shining, Jack is completely out of control and uses an ax to smash the bathroom door, where his wife and son have taken refuge. Several axes were used to create this mythical scene. One of them has just been put up for auction by Gotta Have Rock and Roll, with a starting bid of $55,000, or nearly €51,000. The website states: “This ax prop was used by actor Jack Nicholson in the horror film The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick. The prop comes in a 25 x 2.5 x 40 frame, 5 with film stills Very good condition, used on screen Comes with letter from NORANK Engineering, Engineers to the Film, Television and Entertainment Industry dated June 8, 1989 stating that the ax attachment has was used in the film. It also comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity. Currently retailing for $60,000 – around €55,000 – the prop could fetch more. In 2019, another ax used during filming sold for £170,000, or more than €191,000. Gotta Have Rock and Roll also sells one of the knives used during the filming of The Shining. Autographed by Danny Lloyd, it is currently priced at $1,000, or nearly €920.
