A film released thirteen years ago, at the top of the French box office: Disney has won its bet with the re-release of Avatar, three months before delivering the long-awaited sequel to James Cameron’s 3D blockbuster. A total of 335,000 spectators have chosen to return to Pandora to discover or rediscover the first part of Avatar, according to figures published Wednesday by Cbo-Box Office. When it was released in 2009, the film had attracted 14 million spectators in French rooms. Its release is a way for Disney to raise expectations before the release of the new installment, The Way of the Water, on December 14. Following the box office, three new releases, including A beautiful race, the taxi trip by Line Renaud and Dany Boon, two popular figures who attracted 180,000 spectators. The Harry Styles effect, teen idol and singing star, likely played in Olivia Wilde’s dystopian thriller hit Don’t Worry Darling, which saw 151,000 viewers. The Children of Others, a drama by Rebecca Zlotowski with Virginie Efira, which embodies a woman trying to find her place in a blended family, is doing honorably, with 142,000 spectators.
