The starting point is basic: a man returns from a mission for work and finds his wife distant, he is then convinced that she is cheating on him. He spends the whole movie trying to figure out this weird behavior. Except that the attitude of the two implies performances of madness, in the extravagance and the subtlety of the excess of certain mimics, sequences of cries and others. We can probably never repeat it enough, but what Adjani offers is one of a kind – the metro scene is a trauma in its own right. Sam Neil, meanwhile, 10 years before being recognized at his right level in The Piano Lesson or Jurassic Park, already shines so much. This is without mentioning an unexpected fantastico-goresque reversal of the situation, difficult to watch, which gives a completely different tone to the film.
